Terminals to Persional Computers to Servers?
A long long time ago in an office building not too far far away…….
There were these things called terminals, where users would access via a computer screen and keyboard where in their offices, or places of work remotely. These terminals would hold files programs and such they needed to use nothing would be stored on the user’s end computer it’s self. Then the 90s happend. The 90s saw the movement to Personal Computers where you would have your word processor and such stored locally on to your computer, no need to be connected to a terminal to reach that program. Terminals were changed to servers for universal file access. (so you could use more then one computer and still get your documents.) Now today we are seeing things like meeboo, Google docs, eyeOS, and other things which would remove the need for HDDs in hard drives, so we are going back to the 70s in this scene. Weird.

Weird perhaps, but wonderful too. And scary. That’s how any change is. Five hundred years ago, printed books were the new and weird technology.
I’m in favour of the move to cloud computing, as it makes more sense for our generation’s needs. Sadly, we live in a fast-paced society where one is constantly on the move. By storing data off-site, one has instantaneous access from one’s phone, laptop, etc. Plus, the data’s safe if something happens to a single device, or if one’s house burns down or something.
The privacy concerns raised by opponents of cloud computing are valid concerns. However, I think that more responsible regulation of the industry will help alleviate privacy problems. And in general, our society will shift to correct them over time too. We’re already storing our personal data with banks and stuff (who seem to give it away pretty easily, if you’ve seen some of the news in the past few months!). This won’t be much different.
I’m pretty OK with Google taking over the world. As long as they give me cookies (the good kind, not the evil ones).
